2009-2017 Traverse Oil Capacity and Oil Type
The oil capacity of the 2009-2011 Chevy Traverse is 5.5 quarts, while the 2012-2017 Traverse takes 6 quarts.
If you own a Chevy Traverse from 2009 to 2010, the recommended oil type at temperatures below -20oF is 0W-30.
This oil type remains liquid at these cold temperatures, making it easier to start the engine.
But if you live in an area where the temperature rises above -20oF, the best oil type is 5W-30.
Such engine oils resist thermal breakdown and thinning due to high temperatures.
The oil type recommended for Chevy Traverse from 2011 to 2017 is 5W-30 at all temperatures.
That is so because it can resist thinning or thermal breakdown within a wide temperature range.
If it is winter or you live in an area where the temperature falls below -20oF, the best oil type is 0W-30.

2018-2022 Traverse Oil Capacity and Oil Type
The oil capacity of the 2019 Chevy Traverse with 2.0L V4 engines is 5 quarts, while the 2018-2022 Chevy Traverse with 3.6L V6 engines is 6 quarts.
These models need SAE 5W-30 engine oil type at all temperatures and 0W-30 when the temperature drops below -20oF.
0W-30 is the oil that should use if you live in regions with low temperatures or in the winter.
The formulation resists thickening, which eliminates the engine’s hard starts.
